The INDIA alliance has staged a remarkable resurgence in several politically-significant Hindi heartland states, with the latest trends in vote counting on Tuesday indicating a lead in 42 seats out of 80 in Uttar Pradesh, along with steady progress in Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, and Jharkhand.

Despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP-led alliance is poised to secure power for a third consecutive term, albeit without the overwhelming majority predicted by various exit polls.

The most notable turnaround by the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) was observed in Uttar Pradesh, where the Samajwadi Party was ahead in 35 seats and the Congress in seven, according to the trends.

In Rajasthan, the BJP led in 14 seats, while the Congress was ahead in eight, with the CPI(M), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, and Bharat Adivasi Party also leading in one seat each.

Similarly, in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was ahead in four seats, the Congress in two, and the CPI(ML) in two.

In Haryana, both the Congress and BJP were leading in five seats each, marking a significant shift from the BJP's clean sweep of all 10 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In Jharkhand, the INDIA alliance's Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) were ahead in three and two seats respectively, while the BJP led in eight seats.

However, the NDA maintained its dominance in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh, with the BJP leading in all seats in these states.

In total, the Hindi heartland states account for 225 Lok Sabha seats, making them crucial battlegrounds in shaping the political landscape of the nation.

Union Minister and BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, "It is disappointing given that we worked very hard. We ran a very positive campaign. 3.4 lakh people supported us which is a record number. I believe we are on the right track. I am disappointed that I could not win. My commitment to Thiruvananthapuram and people of Thiruvananthapuram remains steadfast."

As per the latest ECI trends, he is trailing from the seat by a margin of 15,759 votes. Counting is underway.

JKNC vice-president and Baramulla Lok Sabha candidate Omar Abdullah said, "I knew this contest would be tough. I accept the mandate of the people. The people of Kargil and Leh have defeated the BJP. I congratulate them...)

On Lok Sabha election results, "We are very happy to see the (Lok Sabha) results. Exit polls have been proved wrong. The way Akhilesh in UP, Stalin in TN, Sharad Pawar & Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Mamata didi in West Bengal and Congress-Rahul- Priyanka and Kharge saheb performed so well..No one had thought of this. For NDA, running a coalition govt will be a new thing now. In the coming days, we will see how they will adjust their style to run a coalition govt."

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday hailed the voters for delivering a strong message against the politics of "hatred and dictatorship" as early trends of the Lok Sabha poll results indicated a challenging battle for the BJP-led NDA in several key states.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh expressed gratitude to the voters, stating, "The election results are unfolding today, and the picture is becoming clearer. These elections are a message from the public that they are tired of the BJP's 10-year rule and want a change."

Singh emphasized that the results reflect a desire among the electorate to address issues such as inflation and indicated fatigue with the BJP's governance. He particularly criticized the BJP's campaign rhetoric and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider stepping down, given the outcome.

Meanwhile, AAP Delhi state convener Gopal Rai highlighted the party's performance in Delhi, acknowledging the challenging circ*mstances under which they contested. Despite the BJP leading in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, Rai noted that AAP had put up a strong fight, narrowing the margins compared to the previous elections.

Rai also pointed out the increased representation expected for AAP in Punjab, where they are leading in two seats and have secured a win in Sangrur. He underscored the potential role of BJP's allies, such as N Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, in shaping the political landscape, given their history of opposition to Modi's leadership.

Looking ahead, Singh mentioned that the INDIA bloc, comprising various opposition parties, would convene soon to strategize on the future course of action.

As the counting of votes is underway for the 18th Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is contesting from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi is leading with 152355 votes.

On the other hand, Congress' Ajay Rai has garnered 403382 votes.

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief and candidate from Varanasi, Ajay Rai asserted that the exit polls released after the conclusion of the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections were fabricated.

He said, "I had said yesterday too that the exit poll was concocted, to mislead people and create mental pressure. We are connected to the ground reality, I had said that the INDIA alliance will give results and the outcome is before everyone."

Expressing confidence in the victory, Rai said, "INDIA alliance is going to form the government in the country and the alliance is winning with a huge majority. We will also win Varanasi."

In Rajasthan's ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the Congress-led alliance is making significant strides, leading on 11 seats out of the total 25.

Among these, the Congress itself is ahead on eight seats, while its alliance partners from the RLP, CPI-M, and Bharatiya Tribal Party are leading on three seats each.

This marks a notable shift from the previous general elections, where the BJP had clinched victory on all 25 seats in both 2014 and 2019.

In a surprising turn of events, Congress candidate Umedaram Beniwal is leading in the Barmer Lok Sabha constituency, known to be a challenging seat with a heightened voter turnout compared to the 2019 polls.

Election Commission authorities have confirmed BJP candidate Manju Sharma's win from the Jaipur Lok Sabha seat, securing victory by a margin of over three lakh votes against her Congress counterpart Pratap Singh Khachriyawas.

Key BJP figures, including Union Minister Arjunram Meghwaln, are leading in various constituencies, with Meghwaln leading in Bikaner by 54,475 votes, and Rao Rajendra Singh ahead in Jaipur Rural with 5,896 votes.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav is leading in Alwar with 48,102 votes, while Bhagirath Chaudhary is ahead in Ajmer.

In Jodhpur, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekahwat is leading with a substantial margin of 90,724 votes. Dushyant Singh, the son of former CM Vasundhara Raje, is leading in his constituency with 36,6493 votes.

Other notable leads include Damodar Agarwal in Bhilwara, Mahima Kumar in Rajsamand, CP Joshi in Chhittorgarh, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, all from the BJP camp.

In Jalore, Lumbaram is leading with a significant margin, leaving his Congress rival Vaibhav Gehlot trailing. Gehlot, the son of former CM Ashok Gehlot, is facing a tough contest in the constituency.

Meanwhile, BJP's Mannalal Rawat is leading in his constituency, with Congress candidate Tarachand Meena trailing.

Reflecting on the evolving political landscape, Congress candidate Rahul Kaswan attributed the success to the collective efforts of the Congress team and noted an evident shift in public sentiment against certain political figures.

In a surprising turn of events, Congress' Amethi Lok Sabha candidate, Kishori Lal Sharma, has established a commanding lead of more than one lakh votes over the incumbent BJP MP and Union Minister, Smriti Irani, who gained prominence after her victory over Rahul Gandhi from the same seat in 2019.

According to the latest trends displayed on the Election Commission's website, Sharma has amassed a significant lead of 1,10,684 votes against Irani.

Meanwhile, another unexpected outcome is unfolding in West Bengal's Baharampur constituency, where Yusuf Pathan, a first-time contender representing the TMC, is currently leading against the outgoing Lok Sabha leader and six-time MP from Congress, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, by a margin of 29,781 votes.

In Kheri, Union Minister and two-time MP Ajay Kumar Teni finds himself trailing behind Samajwadi Party's Utkarsh Verma Madhur by 30,337 votes.

Additionally, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister, Maneka Gandhi, is facing a setback in the Sultanpur constituency, trailing against SP candidate Rambhual Nishad by 22,637 votes.

Further compounding the surprises, Annamalai Kuppusamy, the BJP's Tamil Nadu president, is currently lagging behind in Coimbatore against DMK's Ganapathy Rajkumar P by a margin of 33,230 votes.

In a notable turn of events, several women candidates have surged ahead in their respective constituencies in the ongoing general elections, showcasing a significant shift in the political landscape.

Leading the pack is Selja, the Congress candidate from Sirsa, commanding a substantial lead of over 2.5 lakh votes in her constituency as of 3:35 pm. Bansuri Swaraj, fielded by the BJP from the New Delhi constituency, follows suit, securing a lead of over 50,000 votes.

A total of 797 women contested in the Lok Sabha elections, with prominent figures like Kangana Ranaut, Hema Malini, Dimple Yadav, and Misha Bharti making significant strides in their electoral battles.

Kangana Ranaut, making her debut as a BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency, is leading by over 70,000 votes against Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh as of 3 pm.

Meanwhile, incumbent MP Hema Malini from Mathura has garnered a commanding lead of over 2 lakh votes against Congress candidate Mukesh Dhangar.

In Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav, the incumbent MP, maintains a comfortable lead of over 2 lakh votes over BJP's Jayveer Singh.

Misha Bharti, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, has also made significant headway, leading against Union Minister and incumbent MP from Bihar's Pataliputra by a margin of nearly 50,000 votes.

Other prominent women leaders include Mahua Moitra, the incumbent MP from West Bengal's Krishnanagar, leading by over 50,000 votes, and Supriya Sule, the incumbent MP from Baramati, leading by over 20,000 votes.

Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, incumbent MP from Thoothukkudi representing the DMK, is also making waves, leading from her constituency by an impressive margin of over 2.5 lakh votes.

However, amidst these success stories, incumbents Smriti Irani of Amethi and Maneka Gandhi of Sultanpur are trailing by significant margins in their constituencies, underscoring the competitive nature of this electoral battle.

Indra Hang Subba, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) candidate, has taken a commanding lead in the solitary Lok Sabha constituency in Sikkim, according to the most recent data provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Subba has amassed 1,56,836 votes, putting him 78,170 votes ahead of his closest rival, Bharat Basnett of the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim, who has secured 78,666 votes.

Prem Das Rai, representing the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), currently holds the third position with 75,464 votes. Surprisingly, Gopal Chettri, the Congress candidate, has received a mere 2,190 votes, which is even lower than the number of votes cast for the "None of the Above" (NOTA) option.

The latest figures reveal that 2,433 voters have chosen to exercise their right to reject all the candidates by opting for NOTA, surpassing the votes garnered by the Congress candidate.

DMK-led INDIA bloc continued its lead in Tamil Nadu with the front leading in 37 seats of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Senior DMK leaders TR Baalu, Kanimozhi and A Raja are leading against their respective rivals by margins of more than 50,000 votes. Union minister and former Tamil Nadu state president of the BJP, L Murugan is trailing.

Kanimozhi is leading from her Thoothukudi seat by a margin of around 1,25,000 votes over her nearest AIADMK rival Sivasamy Velumani, while T.R. Baalu is leading by more than 1,00,000 votes in Sriperumbudur. Former Union minister and senior leader, A Raja is leading from Nilgiris seat by a margin of around 69,000 votes against his nearest rival and Union minister L Murugan.

As the counting of votes is underway in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-Congress combine was seen sweeping the Lok Sabha Elections in the state while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to open its account in the state.

All 39 seats in Tamil Nadu voted in a single phase on April 19 in Lok Sabha polls. The voter turnout of 72.09 per cent was recorded in the state.

The DMK is leading on 21 seats, Congress is leading on nine seats, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi on two seats, the Communist Party of India on two seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on two seats and Pattali Makkal Katchi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Indian Union Muslim League is leading on 1 each.

Counting trends showed BJP trailing in the Faizabad constituency. The city Ayodhya is located in what was formerly known as Faizabad district.

Faizabad district was officially renamed Ayodhya in 2018. However, the Lok Sabha seat is still called Faizabad.

More than five hours after counting started, BJP's candidate Lallu Singh is trailing behind Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad. The lead margin was around 12,778 votes as of 2:30pm.

TMC's Mahua Moitra, who is seeking re-election from West Bengal's Krishnanagar seat, is leading with a vote margin of over 60k votes against BJP candidate Amrita Roy, as per ECI.

Bharatiya Janata Party's Amrita Roy has so far garnered 238294 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Mahua Moitra won from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat by winning 614,872 votes.

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar contesting from the Balurghat Lok Sabha seat is trailing by a margin of 1,86,823 votes against TMC candidate Biplab Mitra, as per the ECI.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress General Secretary and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and candidate from Diamond Harbour seat, Abhishek Banerjee is leading from the seat with a margin of 4,31,736 votes.

The 'None of the Above' (NOTA) option has garnered a significant number of votes in Madhya Pradesh's Indore Lok Sabha seat, surpassing the previous record held by Gopalganj in Bihar, following the Congress party's appeal to voters to choose this option. NOTA allows voters to reject all the candidates contesting in a particular constituency.

In the previous 2019 elections, Gopalganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar had the highest number of NOTA votes at 51,660, which accounted for approximately 5 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency.

According to the latest data available on the Election Commission's website, as the vote counting continues on Tuesday, NOTA has received 1,72,798 votes in Indore so far, second only to BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani, who has secured 9,90,698 votes.

Notably, all the other 13 candidates contesting in Indore have received fewer votes compared to NOTA.

AAP candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer is leading in Punjab's Sangrur Lok Sabha seat against SAD (Amritsar) nominee Simranjit Singh Mann, according to the Election Commission.

Hayer was leading by a comfortable margin of 1,48,772 votes against sitting MP Mann, according to the Election Commission data.
Sangrur parliamentary constituency is considered as the AAP's citadel.

Counting of votes for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is underway amid tight security arrangements.

Early trends from counting of votes on Tuesday threw up disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, which appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan although it is expected to form the government with about 290 seats. On its own, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be falling below the majority mark with leads in 236 seats despite significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala, giving some solace to the party after the unexpected losses in the Hindi belt.

Its rival INDIA alliance, forged together by their common dislike for the BJP and its ideology, was leading in about 230 seats. In the last elections, the BJP had 303 seats on its own, while the NDA had over 350.

The final numbers are also likely to be far short of the "400-paar" predictions by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and "370-paar" for BJP. The exit poll results, which had given a thumping majority for the NDA, were completely junked by the results.

As the Election Commission put out trends from the counting of votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday morning, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat slammed the exit polls that predicted a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said the initial trends suggested that the exit poll predictions were failing.
"The race is in its initial stages right now. INDIA bloc has performed well in the initial stages. But like I said, this is only the beginning...The exit polls and the initial picture that was painted earlier is failing 100 per cent."

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury also alleged that the exit polls were conducted to influence the share market to make money.

"Exit poll was done to influence the share market and those who wanted to make money in the share market yesterday made money. Now the reality is coming in front of you. Now let the full results come, after that, we will tell you. INDIA alliance is doing well," Yechury said.
