I am very much looking forward to speaking to the Maryland Defense Counsel, Inc. on Monday, November 20th, on the proper role of artificial intelligence ("AI") in the law. Should be a great discussion! Sign up at the link below. #knowtherole #waranchbrown #ai #artificialintelligence

I am happy and proud to share that my PhD project is now a part of the Fellow Group on 'Algorithmic Profiling and Automated Decision-Making in Criminal Justice' at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law. If you are curious to know what H.L.A. Hart's legal theory from the '60s could teach us about the criminal responsibility of the AI agents of today, read my (very short) project description below 👇

I commend Anna and Marc's article to you. One of the best and most comprehensive pieces on AI and its impact on the legal profession that I have come across. Great job!

Really easily digestible explanation on this Act. Worth reading if your business is using AI (I think we all are).

I'm thoroughly excited to announce the publication of my newest article in The Jurisprudence Journal. This article explores the potential societal ills of deprivation of liberty presented by the prospect of the unregulated dissemination of deepfake videos in both a political and social context. Information, and more specifically, the freedom of information, form the basis of any moderately egalitarian society, and thus the use of deepfake technology has the potential to manipulate said information and impugn the characters of upstanding individuals and even specific social groups within our communities for arbitrary, often persecutory purposes. Our rights to individualism are thoroughly protected not only under the European Convention on Human Rights but also under other forms of domestic legislation, and the ever-increasing prevalence of deepfakes in our ever-increasingly online world is an issue of great significance to not only individuals but also to the functionality of our wider society. The innovation that is deepfake technology is not yet properly governed by existing legislation, and without immediate action, the fundamental foundations of our society are subject to violation, placing not only the liberties and livlehoods of individuals at stake but also the functionality and preservation of our wider, unrestricted, and unhindered democratic system.

Should deepfakes be legal? A critical evaluation of the legislation governing deepfake technology. http://thejurisprudencejournal.wordpress.com
