Do you ever want to go to a Formula 1 race or already have your tickets, but do not know exactly what to take with you or what to expect? Then this post is exactly the right one for you 🙂
I have now been to 10 Formula 1 races live, even worked there once, and therefore know what you would like to know at the beginning in order to prepare properly.
Wollt ihr mal zu einem Formel 1 Rennen oder habt schon eure Tickets, wisst aber nicht genau was ihr mitnehmen sollt oder was euch erwartet? Dann ist dieser Beitrag genau der richtige für euch 🙂
Ich war nun mittlerweile schon bei 10 Formel 1 Rennen live dabei, hab sogar mal dort gearbeitet und weiß daher, was man am Anfang gerne wissen möchte, um sich richtig vorzubereiten.
Tickets
My most important tip: buy weekend tickets! Tickets only for the race day usually cost only about 50€ less than those for 3 days. Of course, you might have to pay for accommodation for several nights, but to get the full F1 experience, I can only recommend the 3 days. Sunday usually goes by way too fast, and on the other two days there is enough time to follow and participate in all the activities on the track, because there are plenty of them!
Buy your tickets at verified suppliers or the organizer (race track) in advance, if they still offer early bird tickets and compare the prices! I have noticed that for the same tickets there are sometimes enormous price differences to be found at the various providers on the Internet.
If you want to visit a race spontaneously, there are usually remaining tickets to buy at the track, I have done that 3 times so far, once in Spa & twice in Budapest. There are also several Facebook groups where people offer their tickets in case they can’t make it to the race themselves. Just be careful to buy it from a trustworthy person!
And, if it is in your budget, buy tickets for the grandstands. Yes, the general admission tickets are the cheapest and tickets for the grandstands are sometimes very expensive. But following the race and the action itself is already difficult at the track and therefore you are extremely happy to have a monitor, which is usually only set up for the grandstands. Exceptions are (according to my visits) Spa & Spielberg. Here you also have monitors for the general admission category. In Budapest & Monza there was no such thing.
Mein wichtigster Tipp: kauft euch am besten Wochenendkarten! Tickets nur für den Renntag kosten meistens nur etwa 50€ weniger, als die für 3 Tage. Klar, kommt hier dann eventuell noch eine Unterkunft für mehrere Nächte dazu, aber um die volle F1 Experience zu bekommen, kann ich euch die 3 Tage nur ans Herz legen. Der Sonntag geht meistens viel zu schnell rum, und an den anderen beiden Tagen bleibt genug Zeit um alle Aktivitäten auf der Strecke zu verfolgen und mitzumachen, denn davon gibt es zahlreiche!
Kauft eure Tickets am besten bei verifizierten Anbietern oder dem Veranstalter (Rennstrecke) im Voraus, wenn sie noch Early-Bird-Tickets anbieten und vergleicht die Preise vor allem! Ich habe bemerkt, dass es für die gleichen Tickets teilweise enorme Preisunterschiede bei den verschiedenen Anbietern im Internet zu finden gibt.
Falls ihr spontan ein Rennen besuchen wollt, gibt es meistens auch noch Restkarten an der Strecke zu kaufen, das habe ich bisher 3 mal so gemacht, ein Mal in Spa & zweimal in Budapest. Es gibt auch etliche Facebook Gruppen, in denen Menschen ihre Tickets anbieten, falls sie sie selbst doch nicht in Anspruch nehmen können. Passt nur auf und kauft sie bei vertrauenswürdigen Personen!
Und, falls es in eurem Budget ist, nehmt euch Tickets für die Tribünen. Ja, die Stehplatzkarten sind die günstigsten und Tickets für die Tribünen sind teilweise sehr teuer. Aber man bekommt an der Strecke selbst sehr wenig vom Rennen bzw. der Action mit und ist überaus froh über einen Monitor, der meistens nur für die Tribünen aufgestellt wird. Ausnahmen sind hier (meinen Beobachtungen nach) Spa & Spielberg. Hier hat man auch Monitore für die Stehplatzkategorie. In Budapest & Monza gab es das nicht.
Paddock Club
If you’re wondering how to get into the paddock, the answer is not you won’t. You can buy tickets for it, for example in the VIP Club of the individual teams, but they are outrageously expensive and, as far as I’ve learned, only a guided tour of the drivers’ paddock itself is included. To be there permanently, you either have to be invited as a VIP guest or work there.
There is also the Paddock Club (and similar VIP clubs), but this is separate from the Driver Paddock! That means you don’t have access to it. However, you do have a time slot for several days to take a tour of the pit lane. But you can usually buy this as a 3-day-ticket buyer on Thursday before the race weekend too. In my opinion, tickets for the Paddock Club are cool and definitely worth seeing, since you can really experience the pit stops up close from above and walk above the paddock, but if that’s worth the price is something everyone has to decide for themselves. Because I missed the excitement with the other fans and the feeling in general a bit. And even here, if you stand outside in the direction of the pits and the track, you get very little of the racing action. But you have food and drinks included. In addition, you miss the action & the fun in the fan zone & co., which is normally also a highlight of such a weekend. But as I said, it is definitely worth seeing if it is in the budget! 🙂
Falls ihr euch fragt, wie man ins Paddock gelangt, ist die Antwort gar nicht. Man kann zwar Karten dafür kaufen, zum Beispiel im VIP Club der einzelnen Teams, diese sind aber unverschämt teuer und soweit ich erfahren habe, ist dort zum Beispiel auch nur ein geführter Rundgang im Fahrer-Paddock selbst dabei. Um dort dauerhaft sein zu können, muss man entweder als VIP-Gast eingeladen werden oder dort arbeiten.
Es gibt auch noch den Paddock Club (und ähnliche VIP Angebote), der ist aber separat vom Fahrer Paddock! Das heißt, damit habt ihr keinen Zutritt dorthin. Allerdings habt ihr mehrere Tage lang ein Zeitfenster um einen Rundgang durch die Boxengasse zu machen. Das kann man aber üblicherweise als 3-Tages-Ticket Käufer auch am Donnerstag vor dem Rennwochenende dazu kaufen. Meiner Meinung nach, sind Karten für den Paddock Club zwar cool und auf jeden Fall mal sehenswert, da man die Boxenstopps wirklich hautnah von oben erlebt und über dem Paddock herumspazieren kann, aber ob das den Preis dafür wert ist, muss jeder selbst für sich entscheiden. Denn das Mitfiebern mit den anderen Fans und das Feeling generell hab ich dort schon ein bisschen vermisst. Und auch hier bekommt man, wenn man draußen in Richtung Boxen und Strecke steht, sehr wenig von der Rennaction mit. Dafür hat man halt Essen und Trinken inkludiert. Außerdem verpasst man die Action & den Spaß in der Fanzone & co., die gerade den Besuch so eines Wochenendes noch die Krone aufsetzen. Aber wie gesagt, es ist auf jeden Fall mal sehenswert, wenn es im Budget ist! 🙂
Arriving at the circuit
I would recommend to be at the track as early as possible every day! The arrival itself can sometimes take a very long time. Most of the circuits you also have to walk a long way to your entrance and even there you might have to wait a long time again. So in order not to miss anything, definitely get up early enough and go 🙂
Most circuits offer shuttle buses from the towns close to the circuit, so it’s best to find out in advance where you can take them from. Sometimes they are included in the price, like in Spa, and sometimes you have to pay extra, like in Monza. You can also travel by public transport or by car. But in some cases, there is also a fee for parking, as in Spa. At the Hungaroring, we parked for free.
Ich würde euch empfehlen so früh wie möglich jeden Tag an der Strecke zu sein! Die Anreise an sich kann teilweise schon sehr lange Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Meistens muss man noch ein gutes Stück bis zu seinem Eingang gehen und auch dort können längere Wartezeiten entstehen. Um also nichts zu verpassen, unbedingt früh genug aufstehen und losfahren 🙂
Die meisten Strecken bieten Shuttlebusse von den umliegenden Städten zum Circuit an, erkundigt euch da am besten vorab, von wo ihr diese in Anspruch nehmen könnt. Teilweise sind diese im Preis inkludiert, wie in Spa und teilweise muss man sie noch extra bezahlen, wie in Monza. Ihr könnt auch mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln anreisen oder mit dem Auto. Hier kommt aber teilweise auch eine Gebühr für den Parkplatz dazu, wie in Spa. Am Hungaroring haben wir kostenlos geparkt.
Activities at the circuit
The fanzones there have so much to offer that you can’t take it all in. You can practice your own pit stops, drive simulators, look at special cars that are displayed, take part in competitions, listen to interviews with the drivers & team bosses, and so on. Most of the time there is also an offer of DJs or concerts. And of course lots of expensive food & drink.
Es gibt dort in den Fanzonen so viel Angebot, dass man gar nicht alles in Anspruch nehmen kann. Man kann selbst Boxenstopps durchführen, Simulator fahren, ausgestellte Autos ansehen, bei Gewinnspielen mitmachen, die Interviews von Fahrern & Teamchefs hören usw. Meistens gibt es auch ein Angebot an DJs oder Konzerten. Und natürlich viel teures Essen & Trinken.
Things you can take with you
You can bring your own drinks and food, but on some circuits you have to hand over the cap at the entrance. A small powerbank I can also absolutely recommend! Umbrella or raincoat and sunscreen are also never wrong and absolutely useful. Most of the grandstands and especially the general admission areas are not covered and places for shelter or in the shade are very hard to find. Good and especially closed footwear is also a must! As already mentioned, you have to walk quite a few steps per day and mostly on a rather dirty ground.
Ihr könnt euch eigenen Getränke und Essen mitnehmen, an manchen Strecken muss man allerdings den Verschluss am Eingang abgeben. Eine kleine Powerbank kann ich auch absolut empfehlen! Regenschirm oder Regenmantel sowie Sonnencreme sind auch nie verkehrt und absolut nützlich. Die meisten Tribünen und vor allem die Stehplätze sind nicht überdacht und Plätze zum Unterstellen bzw. Schattenplätze gibt es teilweise sehr wenig. Gutes und vor allem geschlossenes Schuhwerk ist auch ein Muss! Wie bereits erwähnt, man legt dort etliche Schritte pro Tag zurück und das meistens auf einem eher dreckigen Boden.
Podium celebrations
After the end of the race, the track will be opened in a few places, so it’s best to find out before where exactly this will be in order to get there in time. This can be a bit difficult though, so unfortunately I’ve never made it there in time. But it’s absolutely worth it, even without the podium ceremony, to go out on the track and take in the fact that they were driving more than 300km/h here half an hour ago 🙂
Nach dem Rennende wird die Strecke an einigen Stellen geöffnet, erkundigt euch am besten vorher, wo das genau ist, um rechtzeitig dort zu sein. Das kann sich allerdings als etwas schwierig herausstellen, daher habe ich es leider auch noch nie rechtzeitig dorthin geschafft. Es ist aber auch ohne der Siegerehrung absolut Wert, auf die Strecke zu gehen und auf sich wirken zu lassen, dass sie hier vor einer halben Stunde noch über 300km/h gefahren sind 🙂
Plan your stay
I would definitely recommend, if you travel somewhere especially for a GP, to start your journey back home not before monday, to just let the weekend end in a relaxed way. You have to remember that these weekends are extremely exhausting with the early mornings, many steps, the long standing, partly in the heat etc.. And on Sunday after the race, on the day where most people are present, traffic jams and long waits for public transport are added to the stress. So it is definitely more pleasant to go back to the real world on Monday, also to be able to process all the impressions. 🙂
Ich würde euch auf jeden Fall empfehlen, falls ihr extra für einen GP wohin reist, erst am Montag die Heimreise anzutreten, um das Wochenende einfach entspannt ausklingen zu lassen. Man darf nicht vergessen, dass diese Wochenenden mit dem frühen Aufstehen, den vielen Schritten, dem langen Stehen, teilweise in der Hitze usw. extrem anstrengend sind. Meistens kommen dann am Sonntag nach dem Rennen, an dem Tag wo auch immer die meisten Menschen vor Ort dabei sind, noch Staus und lange Wartezeiten bei den Öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln hinzu. Angenehmer ist es also auf jeden Fall erst am Montag wieder zurück in die wirkliche Welt zu fahren, auch um all die Eindrücke verarbeiten zu können. 🙂
